Q: Hi there,
I’ve tried getting some help from you, however, I’m yet to hear back.
I’m seeking advice on the topic of adultery where my husband and I are from the UK and the lady is resident in Dubai. She is Canadian, but working for the Emirates Airlines.
My husband broke the relationship with her, but the lady keeps continuously contacting my husband asking him to leave me and our two small sons (5 years and 4 months).
She often gets under the influence of alcohol and on those occasions, she is even more aggressive with her approach. As the girl works for the airline, she has frequent trips to London.
I would like to see if there’s anything I can do to stop her trying to break our family. We do not want to get divorced, we are trying to strengthen our bond.
I understand that my husband was also at fault, however, he’s been trying to make amends for his mistake and find a way away from this girl but she would not stop contacting us.
Thank you for your help!
Best,
Agnes Gorgyan

Financial rights of the wife after expats divorce in the UAE
36
Q: My husband and I are South African & have been married for 6 years. We live in Dubai. He also has a Canadian passport.
We were married with an Anti-Nuptial Contract (prenup) but the ANC was not registered, so we are married in community of property. We have nothing between us, no money/kids/assets.
My husband did receive inheritance money 2 years ago. I supported us financially for our marriage because my husband worked on commission only job.
He refused to find a job that paid a monthly salary. He contributed financially but I carried the bulk of our expenses. I used my own personal savings from before us being married to support us.
He promised that when he receives his inheritance he would return my savings, would buy us a house and more. He received this money about 2 years ago and has given me nothing.
He is an alcoholic, he has admitted that he has cheated on me by calling a sex line & has been arrested twice due to alcohol. We have been for counselling in the past. I moved out on 5/11/16.

Maintenance and other entitlements and rights of the wife

1
Q: What is a housewife entitled to?
I have been married for almost 8 years. I am on husband residence visa. My husband is not allowing me to work. I tried many times to convince him and he disagrees.
However, he is not providing me with any money. He just pays the house, bills and food. I can't remember when he gave me one dirham for my personal things.
My whole life is in the house as I have no money to go out.
I was curious what can I do in this case? Is this normal as a Muslim wife to not be entitled to anything?
Thank you in advance.

Getting Mehr and other rights upon divorce under Sharia Law

4
Q: My husband and I married under Sharia Law. At the time of marriage, he provided a title deed stating that an apartment is not mortgaged in order to give it to me as my Mehr.
He promised to transfer the property within 5 days after the marriage. 8 months later, my husband claims that the apartment is actually mortgaged (not fully paid yet) and he refuses to transfer it stating that I do not deserve it and accusing me of being a bad wife.
He even stopped supporting me financially and he abuses me physically and emotionally. I have filed a complaint to the police after he hit me.
How can I get my Mehr? The apartment is mortgaged while I think it is not. How can I get a divorce without losing my rights?
Will I get compensation for not being financially supported?

Right of the wife to seek custody and maintenance upon divorce

1
Q: I am a UAE national. My husband and I are divorced and were building a house on our government land. We divorced and I applied for a house at Iskan because my parents are dead and it may be likely that I will take custody of my children.
I went to Iskan to tell them my situation, they told me I should come back in three years, I have a steady income and it's possible that I will remarry.
However, my income is not enough since I will be barely surviving and will not be able to put away savings for my retirement. At this point, the way I would live is no different than an expatriate.
I don't have a problem waiting for three years, however, where am I meant to live for 3 years? Not to mention, I'm old enough to receive a pension. Remarrying is out of the picture.
I was also told by Iskan that I am not eligible to receive land or a government house since my name was included under the government land that my ex-husband and I were building.
There should be loans for women in my situation. Any advice?

How do I resolve a year-long pending police complaint to lift the travel ban? 1
Hello,
I need help!
A year ago, my previous employer filed a complaint at the police station accusing me of abuse. He did this because I had taken him to the labor court for not paying my salary.
The labor court case was resolved, and I received my salary. However, the police complaint is still pending. Initially, the police took my statement and informed me to wait for a court summons.
It has now been a year, and I have not received any summons. The case is still under police investigation. They have also informed me that there is a travel ban against me.
How can I remove this case from the police station?

Can I claim all the cheques, even though some will cover the amount owed? 1
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have invested money in a company in the UAE and got post-dated cheques. They requested to delay the payment for a long time. Now, I deposited one cheque and it bounced.
I am creating a cheque execution case. However, I have a few more cheques to deposit that they owe me. They gave me around 5 cheques, of which 3 will cover the money they owe.
Can I claim all the cheques? Will I face legal issues from them?

I need to move in in December, what can I do in this situation?

My husband sold the house we bought jointlyand took a cheque plus 1-year instalments from me. What can I do? 0
Hi,
I am a non-Muslim indian expatriate, residing in Dubai since 2015. The first 5 years, I was on a working visa, and after the delivery of my first baby, I left my job and became dependent on my husband.
In 2018, we bought a house together where I invested AED 2 hundred thousand from my income (I have proof in the form of a cheque). I also paid AED 3300 monthly installment for 1 year, for a personal loan taken out for the house.
But in spite of my resistance, my husband tactfully put the house in his name, so the title deed was in his name. In 2024, when my kids and I were in India for vacation, he cancelled our visas and residency. He also filed for a divorce in India.
The divorce is not yet finalised, and we are still married. Since August 2024, he hasn't let me access my house in Dubai, so I filed a case, which eventually went in my favor in January 2025.
Since I used to travel on a visit visa, I left for India and returned in March, to find out that my husband had already sold the house. The new owner is residing there.
What can I do now?

Can the employer force the housmaid to work for unlimited hours without rest? 0
Hi
I'm a nanny, and at the same time, I work as a housemaid (khadama) here in the house. I work, but as I know, the nannies and housemaids have different rights, and my employer doesn't give me rest.
My work starts at 7:30 am and then finishes at 10 pm or less. It depends on whether the baby is asleep or what time they will take on me if not yet asleep. Is this right?
Also, at the time of eating, I'm still working because the baby is with me, so I just let her sit in her chair. That's how I eat.
Please answer me. I want to know my rights.
Because if I can leave during the 6-month probation, I want to take it if the employer is this kind. I don't know.
They are also expats, but they don't follow the rules of the UAE regarding a housemaid.

My previous organization has not yet released EOSB because I contacted a client. Is this legal? 0
I recently joined a new organization in the Hamriyah Free Zone, and my previous organization has not released my end-of-service benefits.
The HR has instructed the finance team not to do so because I had contacted one of their clients.
In my DMCC contract, there is no Non-Compete clause, but the offer letter has one, and now they are not releasing the end-of-service.
Is this legal? What are my rights?

Filing criminal and civil cases against a company for cheque bounce 2
Hello,
I hope you're all doing well during this tough time.
I have a question in regards to bounced cheques, specifically corporate cheques.
I have a cheque for AED 800,000, and it has bounced. The owner of the corporate has asked for a month to pay back. However, I am worried he will leave the country and not honour his obligation.
My questions are fairly simple:
1) Am I to put a case on the individual who signed it or the corporate?
1) If I put a criminal and civil case on the corporate right now and he's unable to settle amicably, can I put a travel ban on the owner (who signed) as it is a corporate case?
2) Does the new insolvency law as of late 2019 also apply to corporates?
3) Is the owner personally liable if the company doesn't have assets or cash?
