Q: Dear sir/madam, I applied for an immigration program to Canada known as a startup visa through a consultant in Dubai and paid AED 85,000. The consultant has not been able to get me the letter of support that is needed to apply for immigration to Canada in the time frame mentioned in the contract. When I ask for a refund, the consultant does not respond. The incubator from whom the consultant is supposed to get the letter of support has sent us a mail saying that the way the immigration consultant is operating is illegal. The invoice submitted after an apartment eviction is not accepted. What can a tenant do?

Q: To whom this may concern, Recently, I have an issue with our agent when we left the property. We rented the property for two years and we gave the security deposit. We have moved out of the place because the agent increased the rent by more than the RERA calculation. Now, almost 1 month already had passed and we still have not received the security deposit. The agent gave us the invoice which includes; the A/C service of the apartment, and the supply and replacement of the water heater with pipes (plumbing work). All other costs are okay such as re-painting and replacing hinges. But the first two are unacceptable from my point of view. Are we allowed to submit a dispute with the landlord, if the agent will not give the security deposit back, should we file a complaint? Kindly need your expert advice! Thank you and regards,

A bank increases the amount of installments of a loan without notification

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, Greetings! I am an ex-pat who took a personal loan from a bank in Abudhabi. I have 13 months of installments left. My bank changed my monthly installment amount last month without any notification. They charged me an additional amount of 1190 per month for the next 13 months. When I contacted the bank, they said these are your accrued interest amount as I took deferment during Covid period. When I asked them how much the interest would be before taking deferment, they didn’t give me a proper response. I initiated a query with customer care asking them to provide complete details about my accrued interest. They are ready to discuss only via phone & they can’t send any emails. Can the bank charge a high-interest amount for deferment? Kindly advise me on what I can do, please! Thank you!

Q: Dear sir/madam, I signed an MOU to purchase a property. The MOU was signed by the POA holder of the seller on hard paper. We have been following up with the seller agent and he was keeping us up to date for nearly a month that the NOC is in progress. Last week when the MOU period expired, the agent informed us that the POA issuer has decided not to sell as he has another offer. I asked the agent about the MOU and the agent said MOU has no value as it is on paper and not in the Dubai Rest application. Questions: Can I enforce a paper-based MOU (Form F)? Or due to new rules, it is no longer valid and we made a mistake? The MOU was for one month and it is about six weeks since we signed the MOU. Appreciate any advice!
