How do I immediately revoke a POA from outside the UAE?
Dear Sir/Madam,
How do I immediately revoke a POA that I gave to a lawyer in the UAE?
I am currently abroad and do not have my physical Emirates ID, but I do have a digital copy on my phone as well as my US passport.
I do not know the notary/agency that granted the POA in the first place.
Thank you!
Dear Questioner,
Send him a clear email stating that he is no longer your lawyer and that his power of attorney is revoked.
Lawyers also care about their profession and honor, and acting without the client's permission can get them into trouble.
Then search for the website of the court where the power of attorney was issued, and try to find anything related to revoking powers of attorney there.
Dear questioner,
Either you can revoke the POA through the lawyer who had prepared the POA or you can apply through the notary public for the revocation letter.
We can assist you in revoking the POA. Required documents: copy of POA, passport, and EID.
The cost will be AED 4000 plus VAT, and a notification fee of AED 105.
Please contact me via phone if you want to move forward.
Thanks!
You can go to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, take a copy of the power of attorney (attach it), request its cancellation from the embassy, and then notify the lawyer of the cancellation in a legal declaration.
Dear Questioner,
Thanks for your inquiry!
Regarding the above, we would like to inform you that, according to UAE law, a Power of Attorney (POA) can be revoked by the principal (the person who granted the POA) at any time, as long as they are of sound mind and have the legal capacity to do so.
To revoke a POA immediately, you can follow these steps:
1. Draft a revocation document:
The first step is to draft a revocation document stating that you are revoking the POA that you had previously granted. This document should include your name, the name of the attorney-in-fact (the person you granted the POA to), the date of the POA, and the reason for revocation.
2. Sign the document:
The revocation document must be signed by you, the principal. If you are unable to sign the document in person, you can sign it electronically using your Emirates ID or US passport.
3. Notarize the document:
The revocation document must be notarized by a notary public in the UAE. If you are currently abroad, you can notarize the document at the nearest UAE embassy or consulate.
4. Notify the attorney-in-fact:
Once the revocation document is notarized, you must notify the attorney-in-fact about the revocation. This can be done through email, registered mail, or any other means of communication that provides proof of delivery.
It is recommended to consult with us via phone or email for further guidance.
