Q: Dear all, good day. I am based in the UAE and I am a Muslim. I recently bought packet noodles from a shop here. It says BEEF NOODLES in English but the ingredients are written in Chinese. While I took a few bites, my friend went through the ingredients (she can read Chinese) and said it says there is pork in it. Being a Muslim, this is against my religion and I would like to seek compensation. Is there a valid case? Thank you Imran

Q: We are food bloggers and were invited by a restaurant to review their food. Once we arrived, the owner said she did not know of this. When we showed her the written confirmation from her husband she refused to accept it. They wasted our time and money, making us come all the way to her restaurant just to be told to get out. She was becoming hostile so my sister took out her phone to take a video of her screaming at us. But when the lady noticed the phone she attacked my sister. She pulled and scratched her very badly. She left a big mark on my sister’s arm. When the police came we were told to delete the video which we did in front of them itself. Once the police left, she threatened us that if we ever mention this to someone, post about it on Instagram, or leave a bad review on Zomato, that they will take us to court. Can she do this? I only want to write an honest review on Zomato where I explain our situation and post the pictures of my sisters arm. Or can she make a case on us?

Q: Hi, We are a technical & cleaning service provider. We worked on the facade cleaning of Hotel Apartments and submitted our invoice on the 18th of March 2018. As per our contract, we receive our payment within 15 days after the submission of the invoice. But this time we are chasing them for the 15 days period which was on April 4, 2018. Every time we ask, their finance department was replying that the signatory is not available. Yesterday, the 28th of July, we arranged a meeting with their GM and discussed everything with him. We were shocked that the GM said: "Go to the police, we will not pay you anything." I replied, "Why"? He said, "The management is not willing to pay anything to anyone". We have the contract with them, a copy of the submitted invoice, and photos of all work progress. Advise us, what should we do? Regards, S. S. H. Managing Director

The Law sets up the legal framework for the protection of consumer rights in the UAE. The Law establishes the Higher Committee for Consumer Protection and the Consumer Protection Department, and sets up the fines for breach of its provisions.

The provisions of this law, promulgating UAE Civil Code, govern the civil transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The commercial transactions remain subject to the laws and regulations applicable in their regard.

The law promulgates UAE Civil Procedures Code (Civil Procedure Law) which governs civil procedures in the United Arab Emirates, including the prosecution before the courts, litigation and execution.
