What can I do if my ex keeps contacting and threatening me online?

I was previously in a relationship with a man who kept contacting me from random accounts after I blocked him multiple times. We sometimes reconnected until I stopped talking to him completely.

He then threatened to ruin my life, spread fake rumours about me at my workplace and college, and make me regret leaving him. Since he has many friends in my small college, I felt very scared. I blocked him and told my family. My mother warned him that if he contacted me again, she would file a police report. He claimed he recorded only the part where he said he “wouldn’t do anything,” not the threats, and I had no evidence because I was crying and scared.

Despite my mother’s warning, he later contacted me again from accounts saying “accept urgently” and “please accept I have something to tell you”. Now I feel scared and unsure what to do.

To assess the situation properly, we would first need to know:

  • Are the threats/messages still available as screenshots, call logs, or account usernames?
  • Did he ever explicitly threaten blackmail, defamation, leaking photos, or harming your reputation?
  • Has he contacted your workplace/college already, or only threatened to do so?
  • Are both of you located in the UAE?

Under UAE law, repeated unwanted contact, threats, harassment through fake/random accounts, intimidation, and attempts to damage someone’s reputation can potentially fall under cybercrime and harassment-related violations, especially after a clear request to stop communication.

The fact that:

  • you blocked him multiple times,
  • informed your family,
  • and your mother clearly warned him to stop contacting you,

can become relevant in demonstrating that the communication was unwanted and continued despite notice.

At this stage, the priority is usually:

  • preserving every message, username, screenshot, and call record,
  • avoiding emotional responses or confrontation,
  • and documenting the pattern of repeated contact and threats.

Even if some earlier evidence was not preserved, continued contact after the warning may still carry legal significance depending on the content and circumstances.

We can assist by:

  • reviewing the messages and evidence confidentially,
  • assessing whether the conduct reaches the threshold for a cybercrime/harassment complaint,
  • preparing a formal legal warning or police complaint strategy if appropriate,
  • and helping structure the safest approach to protect your reputation, studies, and workplace position.

We have handled a number of UAE harassment and cyber-related matters involving repeated contact, threats, and reputational intimidation, and we always try to approach these matters carefully and discreetly while taking into account the client’s personal and emotional circumstances.

Hello,

There is no need to panic. Based on what you described, repeated contact through multiple accounts, threats, and attempts at psychological pressure or defamation may still constitute legal violations, even if not every incident was fully documented.

For now, the most important thing is not to respond to him and to keep any messages or future contact attempts, as these may become very important later.

We also have experience handling similar matters and may assist you in determining the best legal steps to protect you and formally stop any harassment.

You may contact us directly if you would like to discuss the matter in more detail and confidentiality.

Please feel free to contact us. Consultations are free. Connect with top legal advisors with over 30 years of experience. We are with you until you obtain your full rights.

The best option is to file a police complaint; most likely, he will be deported in this kind of case.

Call or WhatsApp me for further consultation.

Dear questioner,

Go file a complaint in Police station. Even if you didn’t record the initial voice threat, you have evidence. His persistent creation of new accounts to bypass blocks and his messages saying "accept urgently" or "please accept" are concrete proof of unconsented, targeted harassment.

For detailed advice, kindly share your WhatsApp number.

Dear Questioner,

Thank you for sharing the details of your situation.

Under UAE law, repeated unwanted contact, harassment through electronic means, and threats to harm reputation may fall under the provisions of the UAE Cybercrime Law and related criminal provisions on harassment and intimidation. Even if messages are sent from multiple accounts, authorities can still investigate digital traces and communication patterns once a formal complaint is filed.

In practice, cases of this nature typically begin with a police complaint supported by any available evidence such as screenshots, call logs, or account details. The matter is then referred to the Public Prosecution for further review and possible criminal proceedings. Where there are allegations of threats or reputational harm, the authorities treat such matters seriously, especially when there is repeated contact after a clear warning not to communicate.

We understand that in some situations, evidence may feel limited or incomplete. However, this does not necessarily prevent a complaint from being initiated, as investigations can still be conducted by the authorities based on digital records and statements.

If you find the process difficult or overwhelming to handle on your own, we can certainly assist you in preparing and filing the complaint properly, as well as representing you throughout the legal procedure to ensure your rights are fully protected.

Please let me know how you wish to proceed.

Best regards,

Dear Client,

Thanks for your query. I am happy to assist you with your legal issue.

Your situation potentially involves harassment, repeated unwanted communication, intimidation, and threats affecting your safety, reputation, and mental well-being. The repeated creation of new accounts after being blocked, alleged threats regarding your workplace and college, and continued contact despite warnings from your family may become very important factors if the matter is formally reported.

Even where certain earlier threats were not recorded, it is important to preserve all current messages, screenshots, usernames, timestamps, call logs, witness information, and any communications showing repeated unwanted contact. Continuing attempts to contact you after clear requests to stop can still become relevant evidence depending on the circumstances.

Please keep all screenshots, account details, messages, and any communications involving your family ready for review.

Our team of legal professionals is available to assist you with your legal matters confidentially.

Thanks and Regards

There are two paths here: immediate protection from continued contact, and preserving evidence before the situation is denied or reversed against you. Even if you do not have the original threat recording, the repeated contact from new accounts after blocking, the urgent messages, your mother’s warning, and the timeline may still support a formal complaint or warning.

His expected strategy may be to say there were mutual communications or that he never threatened you. The stronger approach is not to argue with him, but to save screenshots, account links, dates, usernames, witness details, and any messages sent to your family. Do not delete anything. If he contacts your workplace, college, relatives, or spreads rumors, that may create a more serious case.

RASHID ALKAITOOB ADVOCATES & LEGAL CONSULTANTS has handled a partially similar harassment and online-threat matter and achieved a favorable result for our client. The safest step is to prepare a clear evidence file and issue a formal legal warning or police complaint depending on the risk level.
