Q: In September I moved from my apartment and as I have a contract with Etisalat I called them to ask if I can move my connection to other address. I have been told that this area is coved by Du so I have been suggested to close my account, which I did. Now after such a long time, I have received an email from Etisalat that my account was overdue by almost 2k Dh. I directly contacted Etisalat, I have spoken with a few people there without any resolution. Also, I have emailed to their customer care centre but till now my complaint has not been resolved. All the supportive documents I have in hands. Where do I stand from a legal perspective? What would you advise?

Q: Hi, I just wanted clarification on something. I recently wrote to a clinic where I had a bad experience - in a private email - to complain about the service. The clinic has now threatened me with breach of Federal Law. I haven't published anything on social media but did say in my email that I wouldn't recommend the clinic on platforms where families chat about which clinic they should choose for IVF. Q: We are a software company who have signed a contract with a client. The contract expired in Nov. 2015. We continued to work with the client on the project. We received 5 payments out of 7 payments that were due. Each payment was linked to a milestone in the project. Now the client claims the software solution is not up to the quality they want and they want to sue us for damages. In the contract, we have a clause that says they can sue for a maximum of 50% of the money they paid us. However, each of the 5 payments they made were linked to a milestone of the project contract and the payments that were made were approved by their managers who now claim that the software quality has an issue. Are they entitled to sue for damages? How can we best protect ourselves?

I received the product through DHL and Fetchr on 09-04-2017 and I paid SR1250. On 14-04-2017 when I unpacked the phone I was shocked because the phone was not the normal one what I ordered and it was a customized model mobile for AT&T. I can’t use my Saudi SIM-cards in the mobile. Also, the box for phone says the mobile color is Safire black and the product inside is gold. How it comes? They also specify the country of origin is Dubai and the product is from the USA. And when I made the order in the special request I mentioned I need a 64 GB Phone and they sent me a 32 GB phone. The website www.dubaiphonestores.com is registered in an Indian address and they are operating from Dubai. How can I legally fight with them with UAE laws?

Q: I was staying in Abu Dhabi and got a job in Dubai, and I had to hire a car lift service from an online company website. I gave one month cash as per their suggestion and it was a bank transfer. I have their company invoice, and I have all the chat. After giving 10 days service, they stopped. I contacted the company and they said they will refund within 15 days. Now, they aren't giving.

Q: I ordered a parrot from Petersburg, America, and I'm from the United Arab Emirates. She sent me a shipment number and a contract but she wants me to pay to start the shipment, so should I?

The Law sets up the legal framework for the protection of consumer rights in the UAE. The Law establishes the Higher Committee for Consumer Protection and the Consumer Protection Department, and sets up the fines for breach of its provisions.

The provisions of this Federal Law, known as the "New Consumer Protection Law", govern Consumer Protection regulations in the United Arab Emirates. The New Consumer Protection Law repeals the previous UAE Consumer Protection Law (Federal Law No. (24) of 2006 on Consumer Protection).
