How can a Pakistani expat start practicing law in the UAE?

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I am an ex-pat from Pakistan with an LLB degree and two years of post-graduate experience. I am registered with both the Punjab Bar Council and the Lahore Bar Association as a practicing lawyer. I am interested in starting my legal practice in the UAE, but I am unsure about the process. Is there a bar council in the UAE that I need to register with to obtain a practicing license? Additionally, what steps do I need to take to become a legal advisor in the UAE and start practicing law here?

I'm Asian and married to Emirati national with 4 children. How to get their passports?

Q: I`m Asian and married to Emirati national with 4 children (3 boys and 1 girl). Due to financial problems, my husband decided to send us to my home country way back in 2011 and now it`s already 2023. He never showed up since then with no financial support. My children are already grown up, the eldest is 22 y/o, the second is 20 y/o, the third is 19 y/o and the last is 14 y/o. Since he left us in my home country, he took all my childrens` passports with him and has no plans to give them back. What is the best way to get my childrens` passports back from their father since they are holding Emirati national passports, they don`t want to lose their citizenship. We`ve tried complaining to the embassy but there was no good result. The only advice they gave is to contact the father, but the father always ignores all the calls and messages. Please send advice, I need help. Very much appreciated.

My company terminated me and filed a breach of trust case without giving me EOSB

Q: I left the company as they terminated me and signed a notice period in a mutual agreement, so my notice period started on 07 Feb until 07 March 2023. The cash is short at that time from three ledgers. I was handling other accountants` work as they are on leave so it was mismanaged at that time. I cleared the short cash on my last day and the remaining is to be settled from my EOSB balance as per management decision. So after 17 March 2023, they sent me a message also that your settlement is ready. Now after 40 days, they changed their mind and now they don`t want to give me my EOSB. On Friday I filed a complaint to MOHRE regarding my passport and EOSB. We both received a message from MOHRE to settle. On Monday, the company as a reaction launched a breach of trust complaint at the police (Khianat Amanat) against me. What can I do as Eid is near and my family is here? I have to go back as I am jobless for 50 days. Please help, this is the whole story.

The manager informed me I have to serve the notice period but no need to go to work only after the completion of the notice period date they will process the cancellation. Now they are asking for visa money they are telling me my contract got auto renewed and I need to pay. I should have resigned 30 days before my contract expiry date. I already finished 2 years Do I have to pay any money and will there be any problem as I didn`t attend the duty in my probation as the manager told me only by word not to go to duty? But I mailed about my condition and my medical report As I enquired, our company comes under Al Aweer immigration and Taseel has no info about my contract or any info. Where to get more info and guidance?

Tenant refuses to vacate despite registered email notice

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I gave a 12-month notice to vacate to my tenant, using the registered email service from Emirates Post. Now, two weeks before the eviction date, my tenant refuses to leave the apartment claiming the notice was not given rightfully and that the notice letter must be stamped by Dubai courts and be delivered in English and Arabic, and that the registered email is not recognizable by law. As far as I understand it is an either/or question: either you send the vacation notice through the Dubai courts or you send it privately through registered mail, where it is not necessary for the notice to be stamped and attested by the court. According to Emirates Post, the registered email is fully recognized by law. Advice on this matter is very much appreciated. Thank you!

What can I do if a company hired me then changed their mind?

Q: I am working in a company and their management is the worst. They made an interview in India and called me. After calling me here, they again made interviews and made me work for 1 month. And now, they`re telling me I am not capable of work and they are mentally torturing me. I have given them 1.5 lack in office in India and here they are not paying me any salary. I am going into depression as I am not getting any solutions. The only solution coming to my mind is a suicide, I don’t have any other options left. I have taken money in interest and people are daily coming to my house for money. Please guide me in a proper way on what I can do.

Can I cancel car purchase and get refund after the car failed RTA inspection?

Q: Hi. I paid an advance of AED 5000 to purchase a car. The next day we met at RTA but the car failed the inspection test. The seller also (verbally) committed to me to provide full-service history which he did not bring. I now have too much doubt so I want to cancel the deal, but the seller is refusing to refund my money and saying he can have the identified problem fixed. I do not trust him anymore. Can I get a refund? I have his sms message confirming the advance payment.

New owner in Dubai with no Ejari and previous tenant: What are his rights?

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I recently purchased a studio flat in Dubai that was previously tenanted under a Tenancy Contract from November 2022 to November 2023. However, there is no registered Ejari to establish a tenant-landlord relationship in the Dubai Government record. The previous landlord had given the tenant a year`s notice to vacate the flat, which was given six months ago. Now that I have purchased the flat, I have asked the tenant to replace the cheques, but she has refused to cooperate. Can you please advise me on whether I am obligated to continue the Tenancy Agreement signed by the previous owner, given the absence of an Ejari? Alternatively, when can I tell her to vacate the flat, or do I have to wait until November 2023? Secondly, I would like to know if I need to serve the tenant with an eviction notice again to vacate the flat. If so, for how long is the remaining period valid, or do I need to issue a new eviction notice of one year? I would appreciate your prompt response. Many thanks! Kind Regards,

Supervisor took my photo without consent: Can I sue?

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, During my work, I am supposed to wear safety glasses, but unfortunately, due to some reason, I removed them. At that time, my supervisor took a picture of me with my face more visible and shared the photo in an email to safety personnel and other team members. He took the photo without my consent. If a safety violation needs to be reported to the company, he can use the company surveillance cameras instead of taking a photo and sharing it with others. He took the photo while standing in front of me, and he didn`t even ask for my consent. I feel embarrassed about the photo. Can I file a case related to this?

Now, I want to know if I can travel back to the UAE for work.
