Leaving the country with outstanding dues and making settlement with bank

I left Dubai in 2009 after being made redundant and unfortunately had outstanding liabilities (credit card) for around AED 218,000.

After being unable to successfully find a new job, I had to return to the UK (home country). I want to find out the current status of any travel ban or a police case against my name.

Likewise, I want to reach an amicable arrangement to carry on repaying these obligations. Unfortunately, my old passport and residency visa from my time in Dubai was lost in 2012.

I likewise, retain no credit card information from my accounts at the banks.

Please, can anyone advise on the correct steps forward?

Thank you kindly.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for reaching out to me on this.

I understand your situation and I believe this can be resolved at the earliest.

First, we will need to check the police records to ascertain if there are any police cases against you. In all probability, there will be a case filed by the bank by bouncing your security cheque.

The bright side of the matter is that you can pay a fine against this case and obtain clearance. However, the bank will still have a right to institute a civil case against you to recover the dues.

Secondly, once the case is cleared, your travel ban will be lifted which will enable you to travel back to the UAE without any hindrances.

Lastly, after we clear the police case, we will get in touch with the bank to offer a settlement and close the card dues.

Usually, the banks offer a good settlement as it's time and cost consuming process to file a civil case especially when the debtor is not in the UAE.

As advised, we should inspect the police records to understand if there is a case, and if there is one, then if any judgement is pronounced in it.

I can assist you with clearing the police cases and negotiating with the bank.

You may get in touch with me on +971 52 9495731 or email for further assistance and clarification.

I trust you will find the above appropriate.

Regards,

Hari Wadhwana
