Bank claim of the credit card annual charges after leaving the UAE

I left the UAE in October 2015 and forgot to cancel my credit card.

In April 2016, using my login I wrote to the bank to close the card since I had no outstanding amounts at the time of leaving the UAE or requesting the closure, .

ADIB didn't cancel the card and levied the annual charge in November 2016. In Sep 2017 I received an email from trust DC stating that they are the legal advisor of ADIB and I owe ADIB AED 1003.

At the time of renewal, I didn't have a valid visa and Emirates ID.

Now, ADIB is putting the onus on me and asking me to pay. They are not responding to emails and I cant call them as I am in India.

Please advise regarding the forward path.

Dear Questioner,

I would advise you to continue sending email messages to ADIB and to their collection team to advise them about your attempt to close the credit card.

However, it is a general legal requirement that you visit the bank to sign the credit card cancellation/ termination application and not just send an online message.

This means that you will probably need to pay at the end of the day the requested amount. Perhaps you can arrange with the bank a payment schedule for the due amounts to be paid in instalments.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for the prompt response. Isn't it mandatory for the bank to do KYC whenever the visa of a customer is expiring?
