Are hotel apartments allowed to keep visitors' EIDs?
Dear Lawyers,
Are hotels (or hotel apartments) in the UAE (or specifically in Dubai) allowed to keep the EIDs of visitors who visit people in the hotel, even if the hotel tenant signed a contract stating that visitors must leave their IDs with security?
Dear Questioner,
EIDs are personal items and contain personal information, so from what I see, it is not right to leave your EID with someone.
However, it is common practice in some government authorities in Dubai.
Dear Questioner,
According to UAE law, hotels are not allowed to keep the Emirates IDs of visitors who are visiting people staying in the hotel.
This is considered a violation of personal privacy and is not permitted by the UAE government.
The hotel tenant may have signed a contract stating that visitors must keep their IDs with security, but this does not override the laws and regulations set by the government.
Visitors have the right to keep their IDs with them at all times and should not be required to surrender them to the hotel.
If a hotel is found to be keeping visitors' IDs, they may face legal consequences.
