Consumer protection and the concept of "cooling period"

Q: Is there a law regarding a "cooling period" on an item purchased? We had a problem with a company distributing vacuum cleaners in Sharjah, we have returned the item to them as we felt like being pressured to buy without giving us time to think before buying, and their contract states that I have to pay 4,000 Dirhams as a cancellation if I return the item within 3 days. Is it legal? Where is the 3 day cooling period?

Consumer rights: online purchase

Q: I'm residing in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a citizen of India. I ordered a new Samsung Galaxy Edge Plus mobile on 05-04-2017 from www.dubaiphonestoes.com which is located in Office No-03, Ayal Nasir 116-447 Deira, Dubai, UAE. I received the product through DHL and Fetchr on 09-04-2017 and I paid SR1250. On 14-04-2017 when I unpacked the phone I was shocked because the phone was not the normal one what I ordered and it was a customized model mobile for AT&T. I can’t use my Saudi SIM-cards in the mobile. Also, the box for phone says the mobile color is Safire black and the product inside is gold. How it comes? They also specify the country of origin is Dubai and the product is from the USA. And when I made the order in the special request I mentioned I need a 64 GB Phone and they sent me a 32 GB phone. The website www.dubaiphonestores.com is registered in an Indian address and they are operating from Dubai. How can I legally fight with them with UAE laws?

I received a termination letter from my company for restructuring. Is this considered arbitrary dismissal?

I received a termination letter from my company on January 31st, 2025, with a one-month notice period, stating my last working day as February 28th, 2025. The reason given for the termination is "considering the current business scenario, the company has considered measures to reorganize the business." Could this be considered arbitrary dismissal? Am I entitled to any compensation or benefits from the company as a result of this termination?

Do I need to hire a lawyer if I found I have a marital case against me in the court?

By checking in Al Adheed, I have found there is a marital matter case against me in Dubai Courts. There is a hearing date for next week and the time mentioned in the case status with a link for an online hearing. However, I have not received any message from Dubai courts regarding this by mail or phone. I have all contact details updated with EID. In this case, what should I do? I don’t know what the case is about. Should I hire a lawyer or I can attend the hearing by myself? Please do suggest options.

Salam, I received an email from a company in the UAE - which is a collection agency - informing me that I had a travel ban and arrest warrant issued in the UAE for an unpaid loan a week ago. I currently live in the US. I have sent them many emails asking them how can I pay or make installments to settle this amount of 332,430 dirhams. I am currently working with them and trying to resolve the issue. My question is I would like to know if I travel for 5 days to Doha, Qatar in May, will I be detained or I will be ok? Hi, My husband lost his job 6 years back and he has not been able to find a job. He got a loan from a bank and they filed a civil case. We also came to know he has a standing warrant of arrest. I purchased a tour voucher from a holiday agency in Dubai and could not use due to a visa issue. Can I still claim it?

I purchased a tour voucher from a holiday agency in Dubai in 2023 worth AED 4239.00, but was not able to use it due to a visa problem. I have constant email and communication through phone with them, and they informed me back then that my voucher will be available and has no expiration date that I can use anytime I want. Landlord cashed my rent but won’t renew Ejari unless I accept a higher deposit. What should I do?

Hello, I had a rental dispute case with my landlord. Based on the judgment, I paid the entire rent to the landlord, which the landlord has already cashed. He is not issuing the Ejari because he wants to increase the security deposit by 10% every year, which I am not accepting. I have already given the 5% security deposit. The landlord is not accepting it. He is forcing me to sign a new agreement, otherwise he will not renew the lease agreement. Please let me know what I should do.

Hello, I had sent a cargo from Dubai to India. I received the cargo late and with 35% damage. My TV, for which I had paid AED 1500 separately as cargo fees, was received after nearly 2 months in a completely damaged condition.
