Q: I had a civil compensation case (road accident) with a law firm in Abu Dhabi in 2017. During the initial stage, they had sent an advocate fee agreement mentioning 15% of the collected money from the court by email, I have signed and sent it to them by courier. But, they failed to provide a signed copy to me and I also forgot to get the same due to my work pressure at that time. The court judgment and compensation money also came to the lawyer`s account, and now my lawyer is asking for 20% advocate fees. I did not agree with the same. After a few days of this conversation, they verbally agreed to 15% fees and requested to send account details, and I sent my account details. They transferred money after deducting 20% advocate fees, I have sent many emails to release my remaining amount based on the 15% calculation, but they are not replying or responding to my emails. Currently, I am in India due to losing my job during the COVID situation. Please advise how to get my remaining money from them.

Q: I wish to file for divorce from my wife. We are both non-Muslim, UK nationals living in Abu Dhabi. We have 3 children (12, 9, and 8). I know we will both be awarded joint custody after the divorce but I wish for the children to mainly live with me at our family home. If their main home is with me, will I still be liable to pay my wife alimony, even if she works? What percentage of my monthly salary of AED 35,000 should I reasonably expect to pay? How long will the alimony payments last? I am just trying to understand that if I am the children`s primary carer, pay their school fees, and cover their living costs (if they live with me), then what would my wife be entitled to in the settlement as a monthly payment?

How can the property buyer respond to a case by the seller due to the agent breach?

Q: Hi, I have a concern. We have signed a contract with a seller, but it`s not an F contract. We signed an MOU, which is an A contract, and the seller has signed the same, which is a B (this comes from the real estate agency). The seller has specified the date of transfer and confirmed his availability to the agent, but the agent didn`t inform us as a buyer. The seller raised a complaint in RERA mentioning that the buyer didn`t show up to sign the NOC, knowing we, as a buyer, had sent many emails to the agent as follow-ups. However, it was ending up with the same answer from the agent that the seller was not answering his calls and he did not confirm the date to sign the NOC. We went to RERA, and they asked us to solve the issue between us. Now we are waiting for the seller to see if he would like to proceed with the sale. My question is, as a buyer, how to protect ourselves as we have given a deposit cheque to the agent and paid for the conveyance fees and valuation? What is the next step from our side?

Q: I am a tenant in Discovery Garden and my landlord registered the Empower in his name and took AED 2000 for registration. Now he has sold the flat and not returning the Empower registration amount. The new owner was not aware of this and when he came to know he registered the same and asked me to register as a tenant plus pay AED 2000, while the due date to register the amount is passed.
