How to get back my deposit for rented cars after returning them in good condition?
Q: Hi, In August I was in Dubai. I rented a few supercars and paid a deposit of 1500 euros. By the rental agreement, the owner was obligated to pay back my deposit within one but he never did so. I have contacted him several times, but he just ignored me. I told him I will contact a lawyer for help and that he has to pay all expenses if he will be sued. He answered then at once and told me I got a fine for speeding so I asked him to provide it but he never did it. I contacted him several times after that but he never answered. Is it possible to teach a lesson to this terribly acting man who represents Emirates in such a bad way and get back my money? Questions & Answers

Can the wife file for Khula in the UAE and will it be enforceable in India?
Q: I am married for 21 years with 2 children, 18 yrs and 10 yrs, based in the UAE. We have always had a difficult relationship but since I am a working woman I do not have to depend on him financially. Until Y 2016, his company was paying for kids’ education and accommodation so I didn’t have to worry about that. When he lost his job, that also became my responsibility. For the past 6 years, there is no support. I do not want to be married to him anymore and would like to proceed with Khula. Will the court ask me to compensate him in any way? The kids and nanny are under my sponsorship, will immigration require me to cancel their visa and restart the process as a divorced woman? We are Muslim expatriates. Will the court mandate him to provide child support even if I do not ask for it? How much time will Khula approximately take? And if you can, guide me on the cost. If I am divorced in UAE via khula, is this valid in India too? Questions & Answers

What can you do if the employer is pressuring you to resign because you are pregnant?
Q: Hi, My wife is nearly 4 months into a new job. We are expecting our first child and her work found out about this recently. Not long after finding out, her line manager made a fuss about how many weeks her maternity leave will be and what it will cost the company, and how much inconvenience it will cause (though we have no evidence of this conversation). Today she was pressurized to resign, being told "we don`t think this job is your thing". She was accused of messing up the job, but when she challenged for evidence they had none. We strongly suspect this is mostly down to her being pregnant. She has been working for 4 years in her industry in the UAE (6 years in total) and has never been terminated from previous jobs. She is still on probation. What can she do to avoid termination if they decide to make up reasons for firing her? Questions & Answers

How to cancel an employee who went on an emergency leave and never came back?
Q: My employee went to India for emergency leave without informing us (we came to know only after calling him why he is not at work and admit that he is already in India). He said he will come back last Feb 12 but up until now, he did not show up and it`s been almost 1.5 months. He has under 1 year of service, his visa started last August 2022 and his leave was last Jan 6, 2023. How are we able to cancel him and what is the procedure? Thank you. Questions & Answers

New townhouse not move-in Ready after issuing cheques. What to do as a tenant?
Q: Hello, I signed a tenancy contract to move into a new townhouse on November 17, 2023. The addendum stated that the house would be move-in ready with a deep cleaning and pest control before our move-in date. However, when we visited the property yesterday, none of the maintenance had been completed, and several issues were flagged, such as missing keys, incomplete bathroom hooks, a missing drain cover, and a missing outdoor faucet. It is clear that the property will not be move-in ready by February 17. We talked to the realtor to postpone the move-in date and return the old cheques so that we could write new ones. Unfortunately, the landlord had already deposited 2/3 of the cheques into the bank. Since there is a potential breach of the contract due to the property not being move-in ready by February 17, what are our rights? Can we cancel the contract? Can the cheques bounce so that the landlord does not receive the money? If the cheques bounce, will we be penalized? Questions & Answers

How can a wife claim her rights from ex-husband after divorce and leaving the UAE?
Q: Assalamu Alaikum I am a Pakistani woman currently living in Pakistan. I am stuck in a case where I am already divorced by a man, who is currently living in Dubai, 7 months ago after 4 years of marriage. I also lived in Dubai after marriage for a few months on & off. The main issue now is his family in Pakistan & him in Dubai are not giving me back my dowry, my Haq Mehar & maintenance amount (which a woman can claim for not giving her a penny as a monthly allowance for years during marriage). They are demanding to return 3 gold sets to them first which they have given me as a gift at the time of the wedding & engagement. I am not obliged to do so as they are mine now according to the shariah law. I would have given them back if they were good poor people. I don`t feel like fulfilling their illegal demand as they have ruined my life. If I file a case in Pakistan to claim my things back, can the UAE`s law help me out too to pressurize him to do the right thing? Thank you Questions & Answers
