Dear Client,

Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.

In the UAE, the dishonor of a cheque is generally no longer a criminal offense due to Federal Decree No. 14/2020, which decriminalized bouncing cheques for insufficient funds as of January 2, 2022.

However, criminal liability remains for actions such as intent to defraud or instructing a bank to dishonor a cheque before its due date.

In such cases, penalties can include fines and imprisonment for six months to two years. If you are facing issues related to a dishonored cheque, consulting with us is advisable for tailored guidance.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear questioner,

The first thing to note is that dishonoring a cheque is no longer a criminal offense in the UAE starting from 2022.

There are also certain other limitations regarding cheques that we can discuss in detail.
