Is it legal for building management to disconnect my DEWA over a missed rent payment?

Dear Lawyers,

I had to pay my rent by the 29th of last month as per building management, but my salary is always paid after the 2nd. When I asked them to be patient, they refused and instead disconnected my DEWA.

It has been up to 24 hours now— is this legal?

Dear Questioner,

No, it is not legal to disconnect the DEWA; instead, they have other options.

You can file a complaint or send a legal notice. Kindly share your WhatsApp number to discuss this further.

Dear Questioner,

It is illegal for building management to disconnect DEWA unless instructed directly by DEWA.

If your electricity bills are up to date, please inform the management that you will call the police for their illegal actions, and proceed to call the police, as the current weather makes it very dangerous.

Thank you!

Thanks for replying!

The DEWA payment is included in the rent, so can they disconnect it?

Do you mean that the DEWA is not under your name as a tenant?

Dear Questioner,

He has no right to cut off the electricity and water. This is illegal and he is not the competent authority for that.
