Can the employer force me to stay until my visa expires if my contract already expired?

I have a doubt about my visa expiry. My MOHRE contract expired yesterday but my visa will expire on June 8, 2024, so my company is asking me to work till my visa expires.

If I consider the visa date, I need to work for 26 months but as per the UAE law, the contract has been made for 24 months.

So is it legal to work till the visa expires?

I don't want to continue to work for my current employer.

Your contract with your employer is the primary document defining your employment terms, including duration.

Even though your visa expires in June, your contract ended yesterday, according to what you mentioned.

Unless your contract states otherwise, there's likely a notice period you need to serve after your contract ends (typically 30 days).

This means you should inform your employer you're terminating the contract due to its expiration and fulfill the notice period.

After completing 24 months, do  I also have to serve a notice period?

Yes. In order to terminate the contract, this is applicable for both parties.

If the employer agrees, then you don't have to.

But my contract has already expired yesterday.

The employment contract will be the decisive factor, and our advice may be largely indirect, as your purpose in the question is somewhat unclear to us.

If you wish to terminate the employment contract between you and the employer, you can resign and serve the notice period in accordance with the contract.

In all cases, if the employer does not Implement your notice of termination, it will make the contract ongoing unless this happens later.
