Q: Hi, I lived in Dubai about 9 years ago and I left an unsettled credit card bill, not a huge amount but I figured I wasn't going back for any reason. Then over time, I completely lost track of it. Since then, I got a police clearance certificate from Dubai Police for immigration purposes in another country. I was wondering if this meant that my record was clear and if I landed in Dubai I would not be put behind bars or anything of the sort.

Q: Dear Sir, I had issued a rental cheque to the landlord while I was a partner in the company, but when I left the company I forgot to collect the cheque back and eventually the new partner did not honor the payment, which later on ended up by landlord filling case and I was apprehended at the airport in Dubai on my visit. The amount was 14,000AED which I ended up paying at the court to close the case and get back home. Now I want a Police Clearance Certificate from Dubai for my Canadian Immigration, will that case be reflected in the PCC or have an effect on the issuance of PCC? Thanks

Q: Dear, I left Dubai on 04/2019. I had a credit card with a bank as well as a savings plan. When I found out that the savings plan wasn't as my account manager said it was, stubborn as I am, I hold my CC payments back. I had AED 120K on my savings plan and the money is gone. Nevertheless, by law, I have to pay my CC which I currently do, and only a small amount is left to pay. The bank filed a police case on 09/2019. I asked and paid a colleague lawyer to solve the issue for me. But when he visited the prosecutor at the police station, he was told that I have to come personally to pay the fine and sign. Is this correct? And what will happen at the airport when I arrive back?

This Law promulgates the Federal Penal Code (Criminal Law) of the United Arab Emirates. Crimes and chastisement punishments shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of this Law and other penal codes.

The provisions of this law, promulgating UAE Civil Code, govern the civil transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The commercial transactions remain subject to the laws and regulations applicable in their regard.

The provisions of this Decree by Law amend the Federal Law No. (18) of 1993 by replacing Clause (4) of Article (379) as well as Articles (600), (617), (641), (642), (643), (644), and adding new articles numbered (635) Bis, (641) Bis (1), (641) Bis (2), (641) Bis (3), (641) Bis (4), (643) Bis (1), (643) Bis (2), (644) Bis (1) and (644) Bis (2). The Decree-Law also repeals Articles (401), (402) and (403) of the Federal Law No. (3) of 1987.

The provisions of this Federal Decree-Law No. (31) of 2021 Promulgating the Crimes and Penalties Law, known as the "New UAE Penal Code", governs criminal actions in the United Arab Emirates. The New Penal Code repeals the previous UAE Penal Code (Federal Law No. (3) of 1987 Promulgating the Penal Code).
