New landlord is not returning old checks: What should I do?

Hello,

My new landlord has the old checks from the previous landlord.

I have already paid the rent to the new landlord, but he is not giving me back the old checks with the name of the old landlord.

What legal actions can I take in this matter? Can I inform the police about this? Or should I do it through the rental disputes center?

Dear Questioner,

You should definitely file a case, but not a rental dispute case.

You should file a breach of trust case.

Please contact our office manager via WhatsApp.

Dear Questioner,

Send a legal notice first.

After that, if he does not give back the cheques, file a case in RDC.

For more information, please contact us.

Dear Client,

Thanks for your question!

I hope you are doing well. I will definitely assist you in this matter.

If the new landlord is withholding old cheques despite rent payments, try communicating first. If unsuccessful, seek mediation with the Rental Disputes Center.

We will definitely be happy to help you.

Thanks & Regards,
