The UAE punishment for being drunk in a public place
Hi Sir,
Good evening.
I was under police custody for 48 hours because I was drinking in my house and went to the beach for a bath, then Abu Dhabi police arrested and made a case.
I want to know about the fines of this case. I am Non-Muslim and have an alcohol license.
Dear Questioner,
Possession of an alcohol license enables the holder to purchase alcohol but does not carry with it the right to drink it in public places or to be drunk in public areas.
Section 2.2 of the Penal Code states that alcohol consumption shall be confined to designated areas (i.e. at home, licensed restaurants, and venues where alcohol is authorized to be served).
Being caught under the effect of alcohol, even in light doses, outside these places can lead to a fine or jail term.
In your case, you have to defend yourself from the accusations as they may lead to jail and fine.
I recommend you to be presented by a lawyer in order to check the police report and the prosecution memo.
