I booked an apartment and did not get any contract. How to get money paid to real estate agent?

I paid an AED 8190 booking fee in February, but the agent then failed to provide the apartment or even a contract which was to be signed on the 15th of March.

As per our agreement, I requested a refund. We had a back-and-forth, and then they gave me a cheque for the amount to be cashed on the 28th of March.

On the 27th, they messaged me to say not to cash the cheque. I feel I am being scammed. What do I do?

Deposit the cheque and if it bounces, initiate legal proceedings.

Will that not cost more than the money?

You may want to check if this is a registered broker here.

Make sure to keep your WhatsApp conversations (screenshots) and hopefully you took a copy of the broker card or Emirates ID from the agent and have the proof that you gave the cash (?) money.

If they didn't refund the full amount today, I'd put the cheque, and let it bounce. See if they refund after they received the bank message. If not, you may contact us and we can help you out.

Good luck today!

I see the company is registered, what action can I take?

You can deposit the cheque to push them for the refund. Send them a picture of you while in the bank and tell them will deposit the cheque now.

You can file a civil case to collect the cheque.

You will spend the same amount to get your money back. Better go to the Dubai police.
