Q: Dear Khubaib,
I am an employee working in a private firm with an unlimited contract. I have resigned and my contract determines 60 days as a notice, however, I want to serve only 30 days due to other issues.
The company forces me to serve full 60 days. Can I use "compensation in lieu of notice" and pay for the 30 days notice or can the company (if they want) still request a one-year ban on me?

Compensation in lieu of notice in case of terminating an employment contract
2
Q: Hello Dr. Rashid,
I hope you're doing well!
I am interested in the contract review + legal advice service.
I would like to have some advice/more details about "Compensation in lieu of notice" in accordance with the provision of Article 117 (1) of the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 on Labour Relations that gives employees the ability to terminate the contract as long as they compensate the employer.
In my case, I have already spent 1 month's notice period after my resignation but still have another month to go, and due to personal reasons (going back home), I would like to compensate the company (Freezone) and immediately leave as it's an urgent thing.
Would it be a possible thing to check?
Thanks!

Getting released from a company while the contract states 60 days' notice period

1
Q: Hi Sir/Madam,
I am working with an E-Commerce company. I gave a resignation letter to my company for one month's notice. But in my agreement, it is stated that:
The Employee is required to give 60 days prior written notice to the Employer to terminate this Contract. In the event that Employee gives notice of resignation, this Contract will terminate (the "Termination Date") 60 days from the effective date of the resignation (the "Resignation Date").
From the time of notice until the Termination Date, Employee shall cooperate in all respects in providing transition services to the Company to a standard of professionalism appropriate to Employee's current position in the Company.
The Company and Employee may, by mutual agreement, elect to make Termination Date effective at some time shorter than two months from the Resignation Date.
Please, can you give some suggestions on how can I be released from my current company?
Since it's an unlimited contract and I've been working with the company for 7+ years.

Quitting job: Notice period pay - contract vs. offer letter terms

2
Q: Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m quitting my job with a 90-day notice period, but I’m only going to work for 30 days of the notice period.
Should the compensation for the remaining days be calculated according to my MOL contract, or can they force me to also pay what was mentioned in the offer letter as extra expenses such as transportation fees and overtime?

Can the employer refuse my offer to pay compensation instead of serving notice upon resignation?

0
Q: Hi there.
I have resigned in March. My last day is June 12th. When I finish I will have completed 11 months.
I have offered compensation in lieu of notice. My company has rejected it.
Is this legal for them to reject?
Secondly - as said the last day is June 12th. My employer told me today they will not pay me my May salary in May.
Instead, they will hold it and pay in my settlement in June. Is this legal?
I work in a free zone but their employment rights they have said are as per MOHRE.

How can I join a new job in one month with overdue salary and a three-month notice?

1
Q: Hello,
I renewed my visa with my current employer last year (June 2024). I would like to resign and give a one-month notice.
However, according to my labor contract, my notice period is three months. Our salaries have been delayed for three months and are now almost four months overdue.
What should I do since I need to join a new company in one month?

Does filing an online rental dispute by a landlord lead to a travel ban on the tenant? 0
Hello,
Does the initiation of an online rental dispute case by a landlord in Dubai automatically lead to the imposition of a travel ban on the tenant?
This is not related to bounced cheques; the dispute concerns wear and tear versus damage claims by the landlord.

How can we claim our money back if the cheque we received have bounced for insufficient funds? 0
We received a cheque which has now bounced. We have tried for over a month and a half now to get a new cheque from the person, and every day he says the next day.
We need the money now. We have been to the police station, and they said they can not do anything as the reason the cheque bounced is "Insufficient funds."
We have been to Al Barsha - Dubai Courts, and they said there is nothing they can do about it.
We are not sure what we can do. We need the money asap to pay our kids' school fees, let alone all the interest we have lost.

Who is supposed to pay for the transfer fee, the employee or the employer? 0
Hello
I joined my new company on February 26, 2025. Upon joining the new company, I asked HR if it was free to join the company, and she said yes.
After working with them for 1 month, I experienced a salary delay, and I had to go to the office to ask why there was a delay in my salary.
That is when the HR told me she deducted my whole salary to recover the transfer fee.
Now my question is, who is supposed to pay for the transfer fee, the employee or the employer?

The public prosecution appealed a judgment to increase the fine I already paid. What do I do now? 0
Good afternoon,
Thank you for your time.
The public prosecution appealed my judgment (a fine that I satisfactorily cleared) and requested increasing the fine.
Can you please explain what happens during a criminal case appeal hearing for me as a defendant?
Will I be asked questions?
Is the hearing just for the Public Prosecution to present their appeal to the judge, and I do not need to give a response?
Thank you again for your time.

I received a termination letter from my company for restructuring. Is this considered arbitrary dismissal? 0
I received a termination letter from my company on January 31st, 2025, with a one-month notice period, stating my last working day as February 28th, 2025.
The reason given for the termination is "considering the current business scenario, the company has considered measures to reorganize the business."
Could this be considered arbitrary dismissal?
Am I entitled to any compensation or benefits from the company as a result of this termination?

Do I need to hire a lawyer if I found I have a marital case against me in the court? 1
By checking in Al Adheed, I have found there is a marital matter case against me in Dubai Courts. There is a hearing date for next week and the time mentioned in the case status with a link for an online hearing.
However, I have not received any message from Dubai courts regarding this by mail or phone. I have all contact details updated with EID. In this case, what should I do?
I don’t know what the case is about.
Should I hire a lawyer or I can attend the hearing by myself?
Please do suggest options.

After 11 months of work, how many leave days is an employee entitled to? 0
Hello,
I want to inquire regarding my leave privileges. I am now 11 months in my company. How many leaves am I privileged to?
Based on Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 regulating labour relations and its executive regulations, you are entitled to a paid weekly rest for not less than one day, as specified in the work contract or the work regulation.
The Council of Ministers may increase the weekly rest day stipulated in this article. The Decree-Law and its executive regulations also stipulate that you are entitled to an annual leave with full pay as follows:
- Thirty days for each year of your extended service.
- Two days per month in respect of any employee with more than six months and less than one year of service.
- Leave for parts of the last year of your service in case it is terminated before you use your annual leave balance.
Now my question is: do I have 22 days I can use? Can someone explain to me in detail?
Thank you!

I am very stressed. What is the immediate solution, please?
