Q: I am here on a tourist visa. A UAE local who is a sponsor of a company owned by my boss has had a falling out. I am not connected to this business in any way.
However, because I am connected with the foreign investor, the local has opened a criminal case against me. The allegations are completely unfounded, however, I am currently awaiting the prosecutor's verdict.
I have a travel ban and my passport is being held by the police. Once found innocent, can I claim defamation of character and claim my losses, holidays missed, lost business in my home country as I have not been able to return and tarnish my reputation?
Q: I am reaching out to file a defamation case against my sister-in-law who lives in Sharjah but she is a citizen of India.
She has declared on Facebook and social media that my relationship with her brother (my husband) is annulled. I am married to her brother and our marriage is still valid.
I have faced humiliation and shame due to her posting of irresponsible comments.
Please let me know the course of litigation and costs involved.
I am not in the UAE but I would need a legal representation there.
Please advise!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I rented out a machine two weeks ago. Today, I received news that it burst into flames at the worksite.
Can I claim compensation for the machine and the lost business opportunity until it gets replaced?
