Q: Over 2 years ago I was awarded degrees from a university in the USA based on my experience. As the process continued I suspected they were fake so I tried to stop the process. In the last 2 weeks I am receiving calls from people claiming to be from Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education in Abu Dhabi saying I am in trouble and the call always ends up with the university demanding money to complete the attestation process. I do not want these degrees and have never used them. If I report this to the UAE Authorities, will I get myself in trouble? I am worried.

Q: I was silly and obtained a paper-mill degree about 10 years ago in Dubai. I have never used it or professed of having one. Since October I have been receiving calls from the Ministry of Education saying I need my files attested. I have paid numerous amounts of money into the US, who so called run the degree programme. They are now requesting more money for more documents to be attested. I have asked for a meeting and official letters, but they only call and shout. The calls numbers are from the Education Department and Foreign Affairs, but again, I have asked for ID and for meetings and they do not tell me. They keep saying they will arrest me and put me in Jail but I have never used the paperwork for any visa of CV or company. I am really scared at the moment and do not know what to do or if it is all fake.

Q: A person living in Sharjah took the fake degree to the foreign office of Pakistan in Sharjah for attestation. All the attestation in Pakistan were forged, however, the foreign office in Sharjah only object the UAE embassy stamp, and handed over the person to Police. Then he was presented to the court. Now the court orders that person to present the duplicate degree with the original stamp of UAE embassy. The problem is that the degree is fake, how can a duplicate be obtained and how the original attestation can be done? Passport of the person is confiscated by the court. Any advice how can he be free. The person is not educated and he only did this act to obtain a good job, although the act cannot be excused whatsoever the reason was.

Q: Do we need to get our bachelor's degree attested? If so, by whom do we need to get it done? Will the employer do it or take care of this? Please advise. Thank you.

Q: I went to MOFA back in 2017 to have my documents attested. I am confident because I did really graduate from the university but what I didn't really do myself is the attestation of my documents. Since I was already in the UAE, I asked someone to have my documents get attested. To my surprise, the officer told me that I will have to go to jail because the UAE stamp was fake. God is good it was late in the afternoon and it was Ramadan, so they let me go and ask that I go to Abu Dhabi after the Ramadan holiday. I immediately flew out of the UAE before any possible case is filed. Now, my question is will I still be able to go back to the UAE as a tourist? I just want to travel and not to work again. Is it possible that MOFA has filed a case against me even if I wasn't there and I was only holding a tourist visa during that time? How can I find out? How can I have the case lifted if there is? Can I have it lifted by submitting the authentic documents and while I am outside of the UAE?

Q: Hi, I obtained a degree from a US-based university based on experience 10 years ago, however, I noticed after receiving it that it was fake, so I didn't process any attestation or submission to any of the authorities in the UAE. I received a call from the US embassy 3 weeks ago inquiring about it and that the said university has legal cases already, so they put me in contact with the so-called United States higher learning education. They mentioned that they will need to get NOC's to remove my name from the US system that I have a degree and they asked me to wire transfer of $2500. Also, I received a call from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it was an Arabic lady stating that I need to finish this issue with them otherwise it will be sent to the UAE Justice Department. Hope to receive advice.

Q: Hi I would like to ask for some advice. I had a degree from the US Nixon University based on experience too and had the full attested version of the degree sent. I’ve never used the degree and have never submitted these degrees myself for any attestation in the UAE. This was in 2013. Never heard anything from anyone up until November 2017 from Dubai foreign affairs of education stating that the degree I have is fake and I would need a cancellation number from Nixon University to cancel the degree. He then put me on a call to the US with the attorney of Nixon. I had to pay $2000 immediately. I then had this same call again in Jan 2018 first week and the 3rd week of Jan 2018 then again in March 2018. I had to pay every time to get a cancellation number for the guy in the foreign affairs of education in Dubai and he assured this will be the last time and this process will end everything and clear my name.

Q: I am a victim of an online degree scam. I have paid a huge amount to those scammers. I have submitted the case to the Dubai police also. but no solution yet. Is there any chance or possibility to recover that money from scammers? how and where I can register my case for a fruitful solution. Kindly advise and guide me. I will be thankful to you!

This Law promulgates the Federal Penal Code (Criminal Law) of the United Arab Emirates. Crimes and chastisement punishments shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of this Law and other penal codes.
