The time frame for a drug case to get judged

Hello,

A friend of mine is in Dubai and he was arrested for having made personal use of drugs. He was imprisoned for 1 week and then released with a travel ban.

Now, 2 months later, he is still waiting for a court order/verdict.

Do you know how long it takes? Is there anything to do to solve the situation?

Dear questioner,

The usual procedure is for the police station to transfer the file to court to continue the procedure till the sentence. Sometimes, it takes time.

If you hire a lawyer, he could speed up the procedure by submitting a request to transfer the file and so on.

But you should be aware that usually drug cases always end up with deportation from the country.

If you need any legal assistance with this case, do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email.

Dear questioner,

Since using drugs is a serious offense in the UAE, the investigation process might take some time. You can hire a lawyer to speed up the process.
