Terminating an employee due to COVID-19 and delaying EOSB till canceling the visa

Hi!

My company has terminated me (with a few others) due to COVID-19. April 30th is my last day and I am relying on getting my gratuity to keep me afloat for a while as I look for a new job.

However, my employer said that they will not release my EOS until they cancel my visa. Given the current situation, how can I go about this?

How long can I stay after they cancel my visa? The UAE government recently announced that they will let people stay in the country until the end of the year due to the travel restrictions, does this apply to me as well?

Dear client,

Thanks for your query!

I hope you are fine. If you will cancel the visa, as per the latest update from GRDFA, you need to change the visa status and get a visit visa to avoid immigration fines. Canceled visas shall not be entertained.

For further information, you can write us an email or call us on Whats-app. We have a good team of Local Emirati Lawyers to handle all kinds of cases. I am happy to help you. You can fix a personal meeting at our office.

Thanks and Regards

Dear questioner,

First of all, it is not allowed for the employer to terminate the employees due to COVID 19.

Second, the employer will never be eligible to cancel your visa because immigration is closed and no one knows when it will be opened.

Third, send an official email to your employer to get your EOS, if he refused, register a labor complaint against him.

In case you face any further inquiry, please feel free to contact me directly via phone or email.

Thanks!
