Q: I'm Jordanian and my wife as well. We have a daughter who's 1 year and 6 months old. My visa got cancelled as well my daughter's and I asked my wife to come back to Jordan but she refused and kept my daughter and hid her passport. I'm now in Jordan. Can she file a divorce case against me even if I'm not in the UAE anymore?

Q: Hello, I am an Indian Hindu expat residing in the UAE since 2009-12 & 2013 till date and married since 2009. I hold an employment visa and not dependent on my husband. I have been living separately from him since March 2018 to date and we both mutually want to divorce due to compatibility issues. We do not have children, assets or bank accounts or any liability as a couple. Please advise if we are to acquire a divorce in the UAE, will it be legit in our home country India? Are we to request for Indian Hindu laws/procedures for the divorce here?

Filing a divorce case for domestic violence

Q: I am looking for legal advice on divorce in the UAE. I am Belarusian non-Muslim and my husband is Tunisian Muslim. We have 1.5-month-old daughter Belarusian citizen. The marriage contract was made in Tunisia and legalised in Tunisia, the UAE and Belarus. The father is mentioned in the daughter's birth certificate. Since September, I stayed in Belarus and I am here with a daughter now. In April, I am travelling for the UAE visa validity (6 months) just for a week and coming back to work in July from maternity leave. I want to file for divorce as my husband had aggressive behaviour towards me, was physically violent 3 times during my pregnancy and abused me verbally. He also refused to support me while pregnant, and since August 20th, 2017, I was not able to work and I had no source for living while paying AED 5460 loan monthly, that was the reason of leaving back to Belarus for maternity. Can you please advise if my husband can ban my daughter while coming in April on a tourist visa? Also, what is the actual procedure to file a divorce in my case?

My cousin has multiple penal judgments of fine and jail. How will this be calculated?

My cousin is in the central jail of Al Awir since October 2024 till date 20/03/25. She has 6 different penal cases all judgements are done, last one was done yesterday. In total, she has a fine of about 135000, 1 month in jail, and deportation in 1 case. How will this be calculated moving forward? What can I do if my tenant is not providing rent cheques nor responding to renew the tenancy contract?

Hi, I am a landlord and need advice on the following scenario. - The contract with my tenant expired in Sep 2024. Upon requesting the renewal, the tenant mentioned that she is out of the country and will sign the renewal contract and provide the rent checks. In the meantime, she paid the first quarter of rent through a bank transfer. - After 3 months, when the next quarter's payment was due, she deposited the next quarter's rent into my bank but did not sign the contract renewal despite my follow-up with her multiple times. At this time, she had returned to Dubai. - Now the next quarter payment is due, however, the tenant is not responding to WhatsApp or answering calls. She is NOT paying rent or renewing the contract. What action can I take since she is not answering my calls or messages? She does not have a valid contract or Ejari, and her rent is delayed by 1 month. All WhatsApp messages are delivered, but she chooses not to respond.
