Requesting staff to take unpaid leave as a result of Coronavirus outbreak
Dubai companies are reassessing their staffing levels during the Covid 19 outbreak.
Is it legal to be asked to take unpaid leave?

Dear Questioner,
As per the law, you cannot ask the staff to take unpaid leave. This is not decelerated by the UAE Government as an epidemic outbreak. Accordingly, the court will consider this as a business normal risks and cannot be subject to Force Majeure.
Some people depend on insurance companies when they argue that heavy rains and weather are subject to force majeure which the court does not accept as long as the government did not announce that this circumstance is unexpected.
