Q: An ex-partner has used security checks of mine and got a case verdict against me while I was outside the country.
However, I have already paid more than half the amount a while ago. I am currently stuck outside the country and unable to get back to my business.
The verdict against me was in my absence. I want to challenge that verdict. I may get a retrial or convert to a civil case instead.
Is this possible? What are my options?

Is it possible to challenge an imprisonment judgment issued in absentia?

2
Q: Hi there,
I used to live in Dubai till Jan 2015. However, I traveled overseas to get married but I had an accident due to which I was bedridden and now am in a wheelchair.
I can't work because of my health and also I suffer from anxiety and depression. I had a loan from a bank and the cheque was bounced for 89k and the Sharjah court gave a verdict of 6 months imprisonment in absentia. My question is:
Can this imprisonment be changed to a fine?

The consequences of non-attendance of a court case

3
Q: Dear sir/madam,
I have a case in the First Instance court against me. I am a UK resident with a UK Company. I'm being sued by a Dubai company (unfairly). My UK team is telling me not to attend the case there, and to sue this person from London.
My fear is, and my understanding is that there will be a default judgment against me. Will this automatically mean that this will turn into a financial crime, and potentially have an arrest warrant out for me?

Can I dispute an RDC judgment against me for unpaid rent if I never received notice?

2
Q: Hello,
I vacated the premises without informing the landlord, and it has come to my attention that the landlord filed a case against me at the RDC and won, with the judgment requiring me to pay rent and damages.
However, I was not aware of this since the phone number and email address linked to my Emirates ID belonged to our company PRO, who failed to inform me. I have the following questions:
1. Can I dispute the claim that I was not aware of it since the email address and phone number that I use are different from the one on my Emirates ID? (Kindly note the 1 week for appealing after the RDC judgment has already passed)
2. If yes, then how and to whom can I file the dispute and on what basis can I file the dispute?
3. What actions can the landlord take against me, if he executes the judgment?
4. What happens if I do not pay the damages that the RDC has asked me to pay?
Thanks!

How to file a case against my former company for unpaid salary I was not on their visa? 0
Dear Legal Advice Middle East,
I hope you are well.
I am seeking legal advice regarding an unpaid salary issue with my former employer, [-----]2 LLC. I was employed with them from December 4, 2024, to January 7, 2025, on a monthly salary of 5,000 AED.
However, I only received a partial payment of 2,473 AED on February 24, 2025. The remaining 2,527 AED is still unpaid.
I submitted a complaint to MOHRE on March 2, 2025, but I am unable to proceed further through their official channels.
This is because I was working under the visa of my previous employer, [---] LLC, and not under [----]’s sponsorship.
As a result, I do not meet the criteria to file a labor complaint via the MOHRE app or hotline.
Given this situation, I would appreciate your guidance on how I can legally pursue the recovery of my remaining salary, considering the complications related to my visa status during the employment.

How to get the security deposit from landlord after finishing all proceedings? 2
The landlord has not returned my security deposit worth AED 5000. I filed a case and have judicial announcements that the landlord should return deposit+expenses. But still no response.
The landlord is out of the UAE and his property is handled by the agent. Not sure how to get my money back while I followed all procedures, even filed an execution case but no response.
While I keep paying to follow up on the case, the property is rented out to the next tenant and earning money. I feel like this system is created like this on purpose.

Is it possible for the employer to drop a case filed by employee in free zone? 0
I filed a complaint to SHAMS regarding unpaid salaries.
My employer drafted a contract saying I should drop the complaint within a week. If I fail to do so, they have the right to do it themselves.
Is this acceptable?

Winding down an LLC company and the liability of the manager after absconding 3
Hi there Michael,
I am a 24% shareholder in an LLC wherein the other shareholders are our local partner with 51% shares and the partner who is listed as manager on the trade license with 25% shares.
The manager has absconded leaving behind unpaid VAT and other debts that are well over 30 days due (up to a year). No proceedings by creditors have been filed against the company and the MOA contains a general POA in favor of the Manager.
I would like to wind down the company without going through bankruptcy procedures. My understanding is that the listed manager of an LLC is personally liable for the Company's debts.
I need advice about the procedures required to wind down the company. I do not wish to go through bankruptcy procedures as the finances and management of the company were being handled by the manager. I am just the creative director of the LLC.
Please advise as soon as possible.

How to reschedule bank loan payments in case or leaving the UAE 0
Good afternoon,
I’m a doctor who lives and works in the UAE. I have a current personal loan which I’m paying it regularly but I have a better offer to move and work in the UK.
Is there a way to contact the bank and reschedule my loan payments and pay them from the UK?
Obviously, this will need more scheduled payment years as my salary in the UK will be less than the UAE.
To make it clear, instead of paying my loan in 4 years as here in the UAE, can I schedule it to 8 years?
Thanks!
