Is it possible to leave the UAE after losing a job while a loan is outstanding?

Hi sir,

My colleague got a loan from a bank 2 months ago. Now, the company terminated him and canceled his visa. He is not able to pay without his job and visa. He wants to go back to India and search for a new job.

After that, he will pay the remaining amount. So sir please let me know if he is allowed to depart.

Dear sir/madam,

Thank you for reaching out to me on this!

Considering that your colleague has been terminated, his end-of-service benefits (if any and if they are transferred to the same bank where the loan was taken) will be frozen by the bank.

The bank will demand that the outstanding amount be repaid immediately. However, your colleague can exit the UAE as long as the bank has not taken any legal action against him.

If the bank files a police case, then there will be a travel ban wherein he cannot exit from the UAE.

Further, if your colleague does not pay the monthly EMI, the bank will file a police case against him. In which case when he returns back from India, he will be arrested at the airport.

Hence I would advise that your colleague checks his police records before traveling to the UAE and also ensures that no police case is filed when he departs from the UAE.

You can contact me via phone or email for further assistance and clarification.

Regards,

Hari Wadhwana
