Is the employer authorised to hold the employee passport?
I want to take my passport back from my employer. I am taking a salary of 1800 and working as an engineer, so why should I keep my passport with them?
I have not taken any advance from the company, but I am afraid to ask them to return it to me.
What to do if they deny it because after asking passport a new issue will be raised and I know they will not give?

Dear Sir/ Madam,
Thank you for reaching out to me on this.
Please note that under no circumstances an employer is authorised to hold your passport. The passport being your personal document should be in your possession at all times.
You can request the employer to return your passport. And in case the employer does not return it, then you can file a police case against the employer.
Assuming the employer terminates you for the above action, you have a recourse of filing a labour case against the employer and claim up to three months salary as compensation.
I trust you will find this helpful.
