Application of the UAE personal status law on deceased expatriates
Hi,
I am Professor for Private International Law in Geneva, Switzerland.
I was wondering if, assuming a Swiss dies with the last domicile in the UAE, are the UAE courts having jurisdiction based on Article 9 of the federal law of personal status religious court or state court?
Many thanks,
Kind regards,
GPR

Dear Sir,
Thank you for writing to me regarding the matter specified above.
Please note the said provision states as follows:-
The court of the deceased’s last domicile, residence or place of business in the State shall have jurisdiction to verify the evidence of heredity, wills and liquidation of the estate.
If the deceased has no domicile, residence or place of business in the State, the competent court shall be the one in whose jurisdiction one of the estate’s immovable property is situated.
Hope the legal provision quoted above is self-explanatory.
