Is it legal to raise the building's rent by over 35%?
Hi,
I have a conflict with the management company of the building; they are cheaters trying to increase the rent from 22,000 AED to 30,000 AED.
Please, could you advise on how to deal with this scam company?
Regards,
Dear Questioner,
The landlord is permitted to raise the rent once a year in accordance with the RERA index, and the rental increase should not exceed 20% of the previous rent.
If the landlord increases the rent beyond the RERA index, we have the option to approach the RDC (Rental Dispute Center).
Dear Client,
Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.
To deal with a potential unfair rent increase from a management company:
- Review your lease agreement for terms and conditions.
- Communicate concerns in writing and request an explanation.
- Contact RERA if you're in Dubai for guidance.
- Document all communication and irregularities.
- Negotiate for a fair resolution.
- File a complaint with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) if needed.
- Consult with us if your rights are violated.
