Can a landlord evict a tenant for the delay in payment of rent?
I am in the process of renewing my tenancy contract. It's already been 10 days since my last contract expired. However, I have asked the landlord for a grace period of 3 weeks to hand over the rent cheques (3) for the year.
The landlord is threatening to evict me... please advise what I should do. I am in a financial situation and can pay only after 3 weeks. My family and children are with me.

The landlord is simply threatening you. To evict a tenant the procedure has to be followed:
- STEP 1 - The landlord has to give you a formal notice to pay within 30 days, and
- STEP 2 - If you fail then the landlord has to file a case in RERA
- STEP 3 - ONLY RERA can authorize the eviction.
It is IMPORTANT for every tenant to know that once you receive the formal notice to pay you MUST pay within 30 days.
You can handover a post dated cheque (dated 3 weeks later) which should satisfy the landlord.
