Q: I moved to Dubai in August 2018 and I am sponsored by my wife. I started working for a company in October 2018 until they terminated me in January 2019. The company is a joint venture between a DWC company and a Sharjah free zone company. I have an employment contract which states it abides by the UAE labour law and free zone labour law. The company advised me that I did not require a work permit/visa. Since my employment was terminated on 17th January 2019, I have not received my final salary as well as other monies owed. MoHRE and JAFZA have not been able to help. What action can I take to get my money? Many thanks.

Q: Hello Sir. I am Dr Parag Pitti, a General Dentist. The clinic where I was working before, terminated me in my probation period without giving me any notice and then asked me for my passport for visa cancellation. Since it was my probation, I accepted the termination but asked for salary for the days I worked with them. They said they will give me the final settlement and asked me to give my passport for visa cancellation. Now, they have cancelled the visa but I haven’t received the salary. What should I do?

Q: My company terminated me even though I did not violate any rules or do any misconduct or any of the reasons in the UAE Law to be terminated. They also know that it is not my fault. They hired me last August 2016 as a bus attendant under the sponsorship of RTA Dubai Taxi. Now, they terminated me before my probation ends without notice for the reason that I was underage in which they can't issue the permit. They did not inform me that there is an age requirement during the interview process and yet they hired me. They also let me pay for the visa. Now, I want to go back to my home country. The provisions of this Law, known as "UAE Labour Law", govern the relationship between employers and employees and other labour matters in the United Arab Emirates. There are special labour related regulations applicable in some of the free zones in the UAE.

This Decree sets the rules and conditions for the termination of fixed-term (limited) or unlimited (not term-bound) employment contract between employer and worker in the United Arab Emirates.

The provisions of this Decree-Law, known as "New UAE Labor Law", govern labour relations in the private sector of the United Arab Emirates. The New Labor Law repeals the previous UAE Labor Law (Federal Law No. (8) of 1980).
