My cousin has multiple penal judgments of fine and jail. How will this be calculated?

My cousin is in the central jail of Al Awir since October 2024 till date 20/03/25. She has 6 different penal cases all judgements are done, last one was done yesterday.

In total, she has a fine of about 135000, 1 month in jail, and deportation in 1 case.

How will this be calculated moving forward?

Also she has spent time in different police station detentions from 23rd May 2024 till October including 48 days or so in Ras al Khaima.

Time spent in detention (from 23/05/24) and in Al Awir Central Jail (since October 2024) will be deducted from her total sentence (1 month in jail). UAE law typically counts detention time toward the sentence.

The AED 135,000 fines must be paid in full unless the court allows installment payments or waivers.

Non-payment could result in additional jail time (typically calculated at AED 200 per day, depending on the court’s decision).

After completing her sentence and paying fines, she will be deported as per the judgment in the relevant case.

The 48 days in Ras Al Khaimah detention should also be counted toward her sentence, but confirm this with the public prosecutor or court.

Greetings,

In your cousin’s case, the next steps depend on the execution of the penalties:

Jail Sentence & Deportation: The 1-month sentence will typically be served first, followed by deportation procedures.

Fines: The total AED 135,000 fine must be paid before release or deportation. Non-payment may lead to additional jail time.

Time Served Credit: The court may consider pre-trial detention time (from May to October) when calculating the remaining sentence.

Your cousin’s penalties and time served will be calculated based on her total time spent in detention, the nature of her sentences (which may be consecutive or concurrent), the total fines of approximately 135,000 AED due for her six penal cases, and the requirement for deportation after serving her time and paying fines, highlighting the importance of legal representation to navigate these complexities and negotiate potential reductions or settlements.

Hello,

If the cases involve different sentences (like fines and jail time), the jail sentences can often run concurrently (i.e., at the same time) rather than consecutively, depending on the nature of the cases.

This means if she has multiple jail sentences, they might be served at the same time, rather than one after the other.

In the case where deportation has been ordered, this typically happens after the jail sentence is served.

However, in some cases, a person might be deported before the full completion of the sentence, especially if the time spent in detention (including pre-trial detention) has covered the required period.
