Questions & Answers
Are non-Muslim employees entitled to a reduced 6-hour workday during Ramadan?
Hello,
What are the working hours during Ramadan for a private company?
Are my working hours reduced to 6 hours per day since I'm not Muslim and not fasting, or do they remain the usual 8 working hours / 48 working hours maximum per week?
Dear Inquirer,
During Ramadan, the UAE labor law mandates a reduction in working hours for all employees, including non-Muslims.
The daily working hours are reduced to 6 hours per day, regardless of whether or not you are fasting. This reduction applies to all employees in private companies during the month of Ramadan.

During Ramadan, all private sector employees in the UAE, regardless of religion or fasting status, are entitled to reduced working hours.
The official working hours are 6 hours per day or 36 hours per week instead of the usual 8 hours per day / 48 hours per week.
If your employer requires you to work extra hours beyond this, you may be entitled to overtime compensation as per UAE Labour Law.

Dear Questioner,
Thank you for your inquiry!
Your working hours will be reduced to 6 hours per day during Ramadan, even if you're not fasting. Your total weekly working hours will be capped at 36 hours during this period.
If your employer is still expecting you to work 8 hours a day, that would be a violation of the labor law, and you may consider addressing the matter with HR or filing a complaint with MOHRE.
