Q: I am Ravi, doing business in Ajman. I had to come to India on an emergency by Aug 18. Unfortunately, there was a cheque of AED 120K issued to one of the suppliers [in Sharjah] and it got bounced. He's calling me to India saying that they will put me in a UAE jail [in case I am there] and they are going to file a new case in India to stop me from travelling to the UAE. If I arrange AED 90K now & surrender the passport, will the police allow me to go out to arrange the balance amount? In case I could arrange the full amount of AED 120K will they release me? Any possibility to clear it off without arresting me? If I arrive at Dubai Airport, will I be shifted to Sharjah? Or Ajman? Please advise how to resolve this.

Q: Hi Hari, I have a question that I can't find in any of the Q&A in the forum. I have a loan from the bank and due to financial distress, there's a probability of facing a criminal offence. I am from Dubai and my loan application was in Dubai. Can the bank bounce your cheque in different emirates? Since Dubai only imposed fines on less than 200k, does the bank have the leverage to file on other emirates due to a different approach of each emirate on criminal offence? Q: Hi, This is M. I have an outstanding loan amount of AED 48,000 from a bank. I took a loan of 65,000 AED almost 1 year and 6 months back from a bank in a Dubai branch. Now, due to job loss, I am not able to pay the outstanding. I want to know what can the consequences be and what will happen if the bank files a case in Abu Dhabi, although I took the loan from their Dubai branch.
