Can the company deduct my weekend days from salary if I take unpaid leave?

My company's weekend days are on Saturday and Sunday.

I have taken unpaid leave from Monday to Friday and they deducted my salary considering Saturday and Sunday also.

Hello,

If you were on unpaid leave Monday to Friday, your employer should only deduct your salary for those days and not for the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) unless specified otherwise in your contract or company policy.

Check your employment contract to see if there is any mention of how leave (both paid and unpaid) should be calculated, and whether weekends are included in the calculation of salary deductions.

Unpaid leave, by definition, is time off that you are not paid for. It applies to your scheduled working days.

Your contract and company policy should clearly define your weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

These are days you're not obligated to work, so they can't be included in your unpaid leave calculation.

Check for clauses related to unpaid leave, working days, and weekends. This will provide written support for your case.

Check with your HR and explain the situation clearly and politely. Point out that your unpaid leave was from Monday to Friday, and your weekend should not be affected.

If you need further clarification you may ask.
