Questions & Answers
If an employee takes leave on Friday, How many days will be counted as leave?
Dear Sir/Madam,
What happens if an employee takes leave on Friday (and Saturday and Sunday are public holidays)?
How many days need to be counted as leave according to UAE law?
Dear Client,
Thanks for your question! I hope you are doing well. I will assist you in this matter.
If an employee takes leave on a Friday in the UAE, it generally counts as one day of leave. Weekends (Friday and Saturday) and public holidays are not typically counted as part of the leave duration.
Specific policies may vary by employer.

Dear Questioner,
If Saturday and Sunday are pre-announced official public holidays in the UAE calendar, then they will not be counted as leave days.
So, in this case, only Friday will be counted as the employee's leave day.
According to the UAE labor law, Every employee working full-time for at least one year is entitled to 30 days of paid annual leave.

Dear Questioner,
As per UAE labor law, the public holidays will be included in total leave if it's coming in between the annual leave holidays.
Otherwise, Friday will be the leave taken by the employee.
If you have further queries, you may ask us.

Dear questioner,
Thank you for your query!
If your company follows the UAE labor law in full, Article 29 of Federal Decree 33 of 2021 states that employees are entitled to 30 days per year of employment.
This would be considered as calendar days, as per sub-clause 7 under Article 29.
If your company has policies that are separate from the UAE labor law, employers are free to set out alternative provisions for their employees to follow.
Please feel free to email me if you require further assistance.
Thank you!

Hi,
Your leave will be counted only for Friday. However, if you take leave on Monday too, it will be counted as 4 days.
