Can my father prevent me from traveling if I am 19 years old?

My father is my guardian and family sponsor. What legal rights does he have over me?

I am 19 years old and I want to leave the country.

A lot of children who are under 18 years old travel without their parents' consent.

The age of majority varies from one country to another.

Yes, for leaving the UAE they don't need consent, even written by Emirates Airlines.

Can we know the reason for the dislike? So we can improve the service in the future?

A lot of people who are in the UAE travel without their parents' consent who are even 13-year-olds.

My problem is that my dad will say I'm running away and I don't know if I could get travel banned as a 19-year-old.

Under UAE law, once you turn 18, you are legally an adult and have the right to make your own decisions, including traveling.

However, if you are on a family-sponsored visa under your father, he may have the authority to cancel your visa or prevent you from traveling if there is a legal case against you.

We specialize in these cases, and you can contact us on WhatsApp for a detailed legal consultation.

there is no legal case and I don't need his visa since I am traveling.

I can't find anywhere where it says that 18 is the age of an adult in UAE laws.

3 Feb 2025, 07:04

According to UAE law, a person is considered an adult and gains legal capacity at the age of 21, as per Article 54 of the UAE Personal Status Law.

Therefore, a person is legally capable of making decisions at this age.

If you need more details or have any other questions, feel free to contact us on WhatsApp. We specialize in these matters.

Dear questioner

As per law, you have attained the majority age and you have the right to leave, however, there are restrictions depending upon the cultural norms if you are an Emirati.

If you need to know more about the norms and laws, kindly share your WhatsApp number.

Isn't the majority of age 21 in the UAE?

3 Feb 2025, 07:18

Dear questioner

It depends. As per the law, full legal capacity including owning and operating properties in the UAE is attained at the age of 21 which is considered the legal age of majority.

Also for the daughters, the guardianship of the father still may continue even after attaining the majority.

So at the age of 18 or 19 years old, I can travel and my parent can't travel ban me at all, right?

3 Feb 2025, 07:28

Please share your WhatsApp number so we can discuss this in detail, otherwise, the meaning will not be completely conveyed

3 Feb 2025, 07:38

I currently don't have one due to my strict parents.

Your father cannot legally prevent you from traveling after the age of 18.

❌ There is no law in the UAE that requires the guardian’s approval for adult children to travel.

✅ You can leave the country as long as there is no travel ban or legal restrictions against you.

✅ If your father tries to forcefully prevent you, you can resort to the police.
