Civil case against a bounced cheque for personal loan
I have a personal loan with a local bank. I lost my job and defaulted in the last few months. The current outstanding is AED 179,000.
They presented a cheque of AED 472k, paid the fine and came out a few months before. Now, they are calling about a civil case if not paid within this month.
Please advise

Dear Questioner,
Thanks for contacting online.
The bank has got the right to move a criminal as well as a civil case against you for the bounced cheque.
In the criminal case, they cannot recover the amount due to them from you. So the civil case is filed to recover the amount.
In that case, you can appear directly or through a lawyer and produce the documents to prove your previous payments and the balance pending so that the judge will decide on the case accordingly and both parties are at liberty to move an appeal if the judgment seems to be against them.
