The requirements and procedures of obtaining a tech start-up license
Hello,
We are working on launching a start-up in the UAE and we have a couple of legal questions. We would be very grateful to receive feedback on.
We would like to operate as "beta" for the first couple of months to test the market before taking up a license and launch the business officially.
Is there any tolerance for this and what is the legal risk?
Before getting full-time employees, we are thinking to give some missions to freelancers.
Can freelancers operate any kind of job or there are some restrictions?
Are we, as the business, responsible to check their legal status and what is the risk associated?
Can they operate on the mainland even if we cannot (free zone license)?

After reading your question, I believe the Abu Dhabi Global Market (Tech Start-Up Commercial License) may be right for you.
This Tech Start-Up License enables technology-driven start-ups with innovative business concepts to obtain an initial license for a term of 12-months, which can be renewed for another 12-months.
After the two-year term, provided the company is successful, you can then transition the tech start-up into a fully operating company.
This license allows you to apply for up to 4 employees' visas if needed, and you can also work directly with freelancers inside the UAE and abroad.
It is always advised to conduct company due diligence before contracting with any third-party for work, including freelancers, however, you will not be liable for the freelancers if they are conducting work outside of their license.
We can assist and represent your company through the entire process of incorporation, submitting all documents on your behalf and liaising with ADGM to ensure your company is compliant and obtains the appropriate ADGM license.
