What you need to know while establishing a company in a UAE free zone

Hello

My name is K. H. - I am interested in being placed in contact with someone to help me open a small business in the free zone in Dubai.

I am an American Citizen and my husband is Egyptian. Please assist by recommending a list of companies who can help us open office space in a free zone.

Thanks,

K.

Hi K.,

Thank you for your question. I would be delighted to assist you in setting up a business in the UAE, and specifically in a free zone.

There are multiple aspects to consider when setting up a company – trade license, office, bank account, and immigration status.

First, no matter what kind of business you conduct or own, you are required to have a proper trade license.

Second, most free zones require that to have a license you are also required to have an office. There are certain free zones, however, that allow companies to have a flexi-desk as an office. A flexi-desk is not a physical office, but instead is a limited use of a desk or an office somewhere.

Third, another requirement is a local bank account. Generally, without a bank account, you cannot apply for a license.

Fourth, if you want to work in the UAE or conduct any sort of business, you must have a residence visa. In addition, it has to be an employment visa specific to the type of work you do.

With regards to choosing a free zone, I can recommend multiple free zones in the UAE – DMCC, JAFZA, RAKEZ, DIFC... etc. However, the chosen free zone ultimately depends on your business activity and its requirements.

My firm and I can assist you in setting up. Feel free to reach out to us at our email.

Kind regards,

Ludmila
