Questions & Answers
How long does Dubai Prosecution take to investigate a narcotics case?
Dear Lawyers,
I am sharing a scenario where I would like to understand the investigation period and time. There was a narcotics case under investigation in Sharjah for 4.5 months, after which the Sharjah Public Prosecution transferred the case to Dubai Prosecution.
It has been 1 month since the case was transferred to Dubai Public Prosecution. Do you have any idea or estimate of the time they need in Dubai for the investigation?
Is there a way to meet a prosecutor directly and speak to them?

Dear,
In criminal cases such as drug-related cases, the duration of the investigation can vary significantly depending on the complexity of the case and the circumstances surrounding it.
Typically, investigations can take several months, depending on the level of evidence and the cooperation of the involved parties.
Regarding the time frame for the investigation at the Dubai Public Prosecution, there may be some delays or procedural issues that affect the duration. There is no fixed or ideal time frame that applies to all cases.
To meet directly with the Public Prosecutor, you can attempt to request a meeting through official channels at the Dubai Public Prosecution.
You can submit a written request or visit the Public Prosecution office to schedule an appointment. However, it is important to have a valid and appropriate reason for the request.
Often, matters are managed through specialized lawyers, and your lawyer can play a significant role in expediting the proceedings or obtaining updates on the case.
If you feel there is an unjustified delay or other issues with handling the case, or if you need any additional assistance or further clarification on the procedures, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Alternatively, you can leave your phone number, and the relevant department at the law office will get in touch with you.
Best Regards,

Dear Questioner,
In the UAE, the investigation period for criminal cases varies based on factors like case complexity and evidence volume.
When a case moves jurisdictions (e.g., from Sharjah to Dubai), the new prosecutor's office may take weeks to months to review and gather evidence.
Direct communication with prosecutors is generally discouraged for the public. Instead, inquiries should be made through a lawyer who can formally request a meeting.
For updates or clarifications, it's best to consult personally with a legal professional.
