Returning to the UAE on the same visa after 8 months outside the country

Dear Sir/Madam,

My brother had a residency visa and went on annual leave. He could not return due to an accident.

It has been 8 months now, and the company has not canceled the visa yet.

Can he travel back to the UAE on the same visa?

Dear Questioner,

No, your brother would not be able to travel back to the UAE using the same residency visa if it has not been canceled by the company.

A residency visa typically becomes invalid if the individual stays outside the country for more than 6 months without a valid re-entry permit.

In this case, it is important for your brother to contact his company and the UAE immigration authorities to discuss and resolve the situation.

He may need to apply for a new visa or seek assistance for returning to the UAE.

If you stay outside the country for more than 6 months, your visa will be automatically canceled.

You must submit a new visa.

Typically, if someone leaves the UAE for more than 180 days consecutively, their residency visa gets automatically canceled.

However, there are exceptions for specific cases, such as medical emergencies documented with proper medical reports.

Your brother should reach out to his company's HR department as soon as possible. Explain the accident and provide any medical documentation to support his situation. If it's still active, there's a chance he can return.
