If the court says we have two days to submit a memo, is it two days after announcement?

Dear Sir/Madam,

If the court says we have two days to submit a memo, does that mean two days after the announcement?

Or does the day of the announcement count as day 1?

Please clarify!

Dear Questioner,

When a court specifies that you have "two days" to submit a memo, the interpretation of this timeframe can vary depending on the jurisdiction and legal traditions.

In many legal systems, the day of the announcement is typically included in the count as day one. This means that you would start counting the two days from the day of the court's announcement.

For example:

- Day 1: The day of the court's announcement.

- Day 2: The day following the announcement.

- Day 3: The deadline for submitting the memo.

Therefore, in such cases, if the court orders that the memo is due "two days from now," you would typically have until the end of the third day to submit the memo.

In the UAE court system, the general practice regarding deadlines is that the day of the announcement typically does not count as Day 1.

This means you would have the following two full days to submit your memo.
