Status of the expired labour contract without notice for renewal

Dear Sir,

I am presently working and my contract will finish on 12 Jan 2019. Legally, no notice was given to me nor told to renew or cancel.

How does it go if I do not renew and they don't say anything? Will it renew itself or it gets cancelled?

It will not renew or cancel, but there will be a fine for overstay.

Once your residence visa is expired, your sponsor must soon renew it if you wish to continue living legally in the UAE without any fines or legal consequences.

The relevant General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) gives residents 30 days grace period to stay on after the visa expiration.

As per the Ministry of Interior’s fines system, the penalty to stay on after the expiration of the grace period is:

AED 25 per day during the first 6 months (180 days)

AED 50 per day during the second 6 months (180 days)

AED 100 per day after passing a year and more.

Remember also that by the expiration of visa validity, your Emirates ID card expires too simultaneously.

Therefore, if your visa is not renewed, then you must file a complaint in MOHRE within 15 days after your visa expires but before the grace period is over, requesting for renewal of visa.

Just wanted to ask about when the contract is not renewed, will it get cancelled or they renew it after the due date?

A limited contract will expire at the end of the term or on the date specified in the contract and may be renewed with the consent of both parties.

An unlimited contract needs to be signed every two years for the visa purpose, but it is open-ended having no end date.

So it depends what type is your contract.
