It will not renew or cancel, but there will be a fine for overstay.

Once your residence visa is expired, your sponsor must soon renew it if you wish to continue living legally in the UAE without any fines or legal consequences.

The relevant General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) gives residents 30 days grace period to stay on after the visa expiration.

As per the Ministry of Interior’s fines system, the penalty to stay on after the expiration of the grace period is:

AED 25 per day during the first 6 months (180 days)

AED 50 per day during the second 6 months (180 days)

AED 100 per day after passing a year and more.

Remember also that by the expiration of visa validity, your Emirates ID card expires too simultaneously.

Therefore, if your visa is not renewed, then you must file a complaint in MOHRE within 15 days after your visa expires but before the grace period is over, requesting for renewal of visa.
