Is it legal for employer to ask an employee to accept a salary reduction or resign?

Dear Sir/Madam,

My contract finished on the 17th of February, along with my visa. During the renewal process, my employer reduced my salary and informed me that I must either accept it or resign. Is this legal?

Shouldn't I have been informed earlier? What can I do about this situation?

Dear Questioner,

You have the right to accept a salary reduction or reject it completely.

Dear Questioner,

The employer may not reduce the salary except in agreement with the worker. He must file a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Dear Questioner,

The change in the terms of the contract can be done with the consent of both parties. The contract will be renewed if both parties accept.

The UAE Labor law generally prohibits employers from unilaterally reducing an employee's salary without their written consent.

You can file a complaint with MOHRE if you believe your employer acted illegally. They can investigate and mediate the situation.
