Claiming security deposit from landlord after handover

Ex-landlord in Abu Dhabi Khalifa City isn't willing to return full payment that I paid as a security deposit.

He claims that 1k will be deducted because I left the carpet and removed the lights whereas the lights were all mine and he communicated in a very ill-mannered way.

Kindly assist me with this.

Thank you

Dear Applicant,

Usually, a clause is mentioned in all tenancy contracts according to which the landlord has the right to keep the security deposit/ or part of it, in case you will not hand over the apartment in the same condition as it was rented.

In case the landlord's statement is correct and your tenancy contract has this kind of clause, he has the right to deduct a percentage or amount from the security deposit.

In case you want us to check your tenancy contract, please send us your contract on rg@elnaggarlegal.com

Thank you.

Best regards,

Raluca Gatina.
